Maori Students Association – Victoria University of Wellington
Victoria University of Wellington – Te Whare Wananga o te Upoko o te Ika a Maui
Ngāi Tauira – the Māori students’ association, represents the interests of tauira Māori studying at Victoria University. Ngāi Tauira provides a legitimate voice for tauira Māori whereby they can feel comfortable and culturally safe within a Western academic environment.
Ngāi Tauira provides a number of services to tauira from, advocacy and support, providing scholarships and funding, representation of academic boards and councils, National representation, social networking, and pastoral support.
The aim of Ngāi Tauira is to help nurture, and foster the academic, cultural, political and social potential of tauira in a manner that is consistent with Te Tiriti o Waitangi, its principles and its practices. Ngāi Tauira also supports any initiative that encourages the practice of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori at Victoria University.
The framework with which we operate is captured in our vision of:
Ngāi Tauira – te huinga tauira Māori, e mahi ana i ngā mahi mō ngā tauira Māori e ako ana i te Wānanga o Wikitōria. E hoatu reo tika ana mō ngā tauira Māori e taea ai te whakangahau atu kia whakawhitiwhitihia a rātou tikanga i roto i te taiao akoranga Pākēhā.
Tērā ētahi rautaki a Ngā Tauira kei te whāngai atu ki ngā tauira mai i te tautoko, te manaaki, te hoatu karahipi me te hoatu pūtea, te whakatū tangata ki ngā poari me ngā kaunihera ākonga, ki ngā tari ā-motu, ki ngā herenga hapori me ngā manaakitanga ā-tauira.
Ko te aronga o Ngai Tauira he āwhina, he tiaki i ngā mahi akoranga, mahi tikanga, mahi tōrangapū me nga mahi hāpori kia pā hāngai ki te Tiriti o Waitangi, i ōna kaupapa me ōna whakawai. Kei te manaaki a Ngāi Tauira i ngā mea whakatimata e whakahau ana i ngā whakawai o te reo Māori me ngā tikanga Māori i te Whare Wānanga.
Ko te anga mahi te whakamahia nei e mātau kei te hopu i tō mātau tirohanga whānui:
